Wondering what a banana photo is doing here? This banana was in my lunch sack on a bench behind me in the pits. Notice the little white thing sticking out of it! The pits are where the targets are. Every match there is a group in the pits to pull targets as bullets are fired to mark the bullet hole in paper and put a value disk. You are basically behind a cement wall berm and the targets are above you. The bullet hits the target, you pull it down and mark the score for the shooter and put it back up again.
A rule that not everyone follows is that you should wear glasses and a hat (like a baseball hat) so your face and head are more protected. Why? Sometimes the humans firing either made a bad shot and the bullet could hit the thick wood frame of edges of target and explode wood chunks. Or, such a great shot that it hits the same spotter in the exact same spot and it explodes everywhere. (Like I did in the previous entry. Did I mention I hit it 4 times in a row? 🙂 ) As for the banana?
I had my head down at this moment and felt something smack the top of my head. Looked up and realized the target next to me had had the spotter knocked out. Good shot! Did not think much of it. When we got home that night Charles took our lunch bags apart and found that my banana had been speared with the spindle of the spotter. It is a sharp pointy piece of plastic. You realize a banana skin is tough!
Could of poked someone’s eye out. Like mine!
