41st Division High Power Rifle Regional Championship Day 2

Happy 4th of July in this great country! A new tradition started at this match this year that I hope will be done all the time. We had “Colors” presented before the match started each day. The Flag and anthem were presented by the Washington Guard. This morning one of the shooters shot off his mini canon that he built himself! So cool! In the photo it looks like a toy until you notice the legs of someone standing near it.

Here it is July 4th and it was overcast and cold. So ridiculously cliche of Seattle. At least it waited to rain until that evening. We had the Across The Course match today. I shot my service rifle (AR15). One thing I did not realize was that I was put in the High Master class for the entire weekend. I am only a Master with the service rifle. So I was put in with High Masters combining match rifles and service rifles. Eek! I did though shoot very well. Except for Offfhand. I still struggle with that but I know I just need to practice it more. Seated and Prone rapids were good and my 600 yard slow prone was awesome! (Photo is of me shooting rapid prone. Other photo is of the entire line) I shot a 196/200. I did not get any awards today but I was happy with my scores. Charles got a first in seated rapids. Yea Charles! So he did beat me at seated BUT………..I beat him for the day by 2 points. I have not done that in a long time. The match winner for the day was Allen Spiker from Oregon.

Allen beat everyone with his service rifle. It is quite impressive when a service rifle beats match rifles. For those of you unfamiliar, a match rifle is similar to my prone gun. It has the ghost sites and are technically more accurate rifles. It is usually a match rifle that will win the overall match. Way to go Allen. And an amazing score.

Today, Monday is the team match and CMP Leg match. Charles is there. I, well, I am not. We stayed up to watch the Lake Union Fireworks show from our condo. I wanted to sleep in and relax one day. So here I am at home writing this with a cup of coffee next to me and Kozmo at my feet. Nice.
