Camp Perry Nationals Day 1 – WOW!

I do not know where to begin this entry. How about, I just got back from dinner and a couple of WELL DESERVED beers. We started at 8am and did not leave the line until 6:30 tonight. Today I am High Master Winner. I am also High Woman overall. That means I beat the Gallagher women and they had scopes. I also got to compete in both of the shoot-offs at the end of the day. So I will explain in more detail.

My first string today and my first string ever at Camp Perry at 1000 yards I cleaned. 200/200 with 10 X. Apparently I was the only clean in the Match or Palma category. The second string at 1000 I shot a 198/200 with 9 X. I ended up winning that relay also. So what they do is have shoot-offs with one winner from each relay in your rifle category. So there was Palma, Any Sights and service rifles. Kelly Bachand, my Washington buddy who also was on Top Shot was in the shoot-off with me and two other guys, Eric and John. The 4 of us happened to be in both shoot-offs. Pretty rare.

The shoot-off overwhelmed me a bit. They put up small targets behind where we shoot. When scores come up down range, my scorer posts my scores on the little target and on a big over-sized score card so the audience can watch. Talk about pressure! I am so sorry I did not get a picture of this. I was so nervous and thinking too much that I forgot to.  I will tomorrow whether or not I am in it again. It is pretty neat. So we had 13 minutes for 3 sighters and 10 for record. Not much time to wait out conditions. I did fine until I CROSS-FIRED!!!!! So mortified. Then second shoot-off I dropped 4 points. A younger guy named Eric won the shoot-offs. Congrats!

What a day! I can’t believe it. Charles and I loaded a bunch of extra ammo because he was thinking I might have shoot-offs. I thought, “No way”. And look what happened! 2 shoot-offs in one day!  I had many many people I had never met congratulating me. I even had a couple of complete strangers say they read my blog. I asked where they heard of me and I guess someone posted it on one of the long range forums. Charles was that you?

So I think I am in first so far for the aggregate? Need to see score board tomorrow. Tomorrow we have one individual match and one team match. Then possibly another shoot-off? We will see. I will sleep well tonight.

Photo is of one of the storm watch towers on range. We had a dark wet storm come through for about an hour today. No lighting though so we did not have to flee the range. Supposedly another one expected tomorrow.
