Rattlesnake Long Range Regional Day 3 – I Can See!

I tried an experiment today and wore my regular glasses instead of forcing contacts in again. I had to adjust the angle of them a bit but it was great! I could see! No extra time blinking and breathing trying to make my eye come in to focus or get out irritations. So now I know. No more excuses for me now. A few years ago Charles and I bought some shooting glasses made in Germany. They look like mad scientist glasses. (Photo at right) The prescription in them was just to magnify close up sights for the AR. So I will take these back in to my Optometrist and have the prescription changed for what my regular glasses are. I will look very dorky but hey, I will do what it takes for that extra advantage. No more
messing with contacts and wondering if they will
cooperate. Back to the match results!

I came in 4th place over all and 1st High Master. Sunday was crazy windy! The first relay of the day had no wind. They all cleaned 800 yards. All of us in the top ratings from Saturday were supposed to be honored to get relay 2 on Sunday. But oh did the winds pick up when we got to the line. No fair!! By the time we got back to 900 and 1000 it was blowing hard. I will say though that was the first Rattlesnake match I truly enjoyed. The temp was warm so the wind did not bother me. It is when it is freezing and windy that I get grumpy. I know, Want some cheese with that whine? I had a lot of fun on this trip. I tried out some wind reading techniques I have seen others do and it worked. I still got trapped in some conditions that were subtle to the eye but kept blowing me out to the 9 ring no matter how many times I kept adding minutes. Makes you want to scream! The 3 winners this weekend were Bud Solis, Wayne Budbill and Judy Anderson. Great job! The other two people on the left in the photo won the F Class series, Steven Zock and Mark Anderson.

I will be making a trip to 29 Palms in CA in November for a 1000 Palma match. Until then I need to just get trigger time even at 600 yards. My goal is once a week at Cascade. Perfect range for practice. Rifle range is completely separate from all others so you don’t have to fight for it. Boy, and here I thought I was going to get some time off for the winter.
