Aloha! Open that Front Sight Up!

Aloha? What does that mean? Charles and I just got home from Hawaii last night. Perfect way to get out of this NW weather for a week. But now that I am home for a day and it is flooding everywhere with no let up in sight, I want to go back. To lighten the mood we got our Christmas tree today and decorated it. At least cold weather and snow would be better than this gray dismal rain!

Last week before we left I went to a practice at Cascade. We shot across the course and back at 600 I shot my Palma rifle. What a day. I only dropped 1 at 200 rapid and only 1 at 300. 2 cleans! I have never done that. Why could I not do that 2 weeks ago in 29 Palms? At 600 I shot my Palma rifle and tried an experiment, for me, to open up my front sight a huge amount. I have always had a tight ring around the black. I hear over and over that one should have the white around the black be 1 1/2 times the black. That seems huge. Well I tried it. Holy smokes! I had 24 bullets to get rid of and only 5 were in the 10 ring. Yes, that means all the others were X’s. When I first viewed it this way I felt like I would be swaying all over the place. But apparently your eyes play tricks on you. Having it more open kept me level. Eureka! Amazing! How exciting! OK!  I know there are those reading this that have known this and been doing this forever. But hey, I am teaching myself here! I never the got the world class coaching the juniors in Washington have. I have been thrown out there on my own. I learn by figuring it out the hard way I guess. Well anyway, I can’t wait to try it again! And the cleans at rapid fire also! Bring on the next match!
