Phoenix – SW Regional Long Range – Days 4 and 5

I apologize for waiting this long to post results. My hotel had lousy wi-fi service. In this day and age? Not good. Anyway, the luxury of our calm weather we had from the first two days went away. Saturday was the ANY rifle/IRON sight day with a 4 person team event at the end. I shot very well in my individuals with my Palma but not enough to beat the top shooters. Some perfect scores out there. John Whitaker for one. Unstoppable.

(Top photo is of team from Palma Team event 2 days prior – Rick Hunt, Me Bud Solis, Marty Mayo and Asa
2nd photo – I am scoring for Bud Solis.

I had mentioned the other day that I was going to be put on a scoped rifle for an ANY/ANY team event. Well it turns out it was to be an ANY/IRON team.  But I did borrow Ricky’s 6.5-284.  My ANY/IRON team was made up of myself, Rick Hunt, Bud Solis and German Salizar. (We forgot to get a team photo! My bad.)We lost our 5th team member due to illness so Ricky who normally only coaches got to shoot also. So I coached for him. Unfortunately I got caught in a few wind changes so that brought our score down. Sorry gang. Otherwise, I shot perfectly under Ricky’s supervision. And with a rifle I had never used before!

Sunday we ended the week with ANY/ANY rifles individuals. This was probably the most challenging day with wind and I had my best results of wind reading. While most everyone shot scopes I kept even scores with my Palma iron sights. Like last year having a goal of making the US Development Team and making it, I have a goal of being the best wind reader in a short amount of time. By this time next year you will see my name as Match Winner. Wishful thinking? I think not!
