Road Trip To 3 Gun Nationals – Day 2

Leaving Ephrata, WA we had a 6 hour drive to Missoula, MT. I find it odd that I have never been to MT or WY.  l realized I’ve had more travel outside of the US than inside.  For the last couple of years Charles and I have had an itch to move away from our Seattle condo to the wide open spaces. And we truly mean getting a minimum of 50 acres so we can have our own range.  Eastern Wa has been on our list but our visit to Missoula yesterday adds to our options. Although I would like to be out there, I also want to be close enough to a town or city that has a civilization. And hopefully a location our friends might want to come and visit. An answer to that is a college town. Our friends John and Lynn lived on a nice property in Missoula with 5 acres and a couple of horses. Yet they were close to town. Lynn works as a ranch manager for a local that has 2200 acres about 15 minutes away.
The ranch is owned by a very wealthy family and had the best of everything. Of course I forgot my camera and phone and did not get any photos! There were beautiful horse barns, chicken coops, goats, ponies and Texas long horns.  All are friendly as pets for the grand kids that come or their guest parties. They gave us a tour and drove us up and around the ranch. Herds of elk and deer were everywhere. The views and the mountains were amazing. I felt a sense of calm. No sirens, no traffic or noise. But also there would be no more of my family and friends and walking to nice restaurants or coffee shops. Would I be able to take this for very long? But the point of our doing this would be to downsize our cost of living. We wanted to take a year or two and get a big toy hauler and truck and tour the country and hit every high power and 3 Gun match we can get to. We would put a loading bench/shop and jewelry station (for my business) in the back. Yes this came out of my mouth. “City girl in a motorhome”.  The jaws of my close friends have dropped to the floor. “Anette Wachter in a motorhome?”  Yes, I want to do this. Who would of thought?  So we would not be bored by any means.  We could also make it back to Seattle enough to catch up with people.
We just made it to Sheridan. Charles’ brother Peter is a teacher in a one room school house. Not many of these left in the country. Peter and this school house were written about in the NY Times. I have photos here of the famous Mint Bar and  King’s Ropes lassos. Thousands of handmade lassos. Stay tuned for school house photos tomorrow.
