2012 USPSA Nationals Day 1

It managed to not rain on us today but the winds were brutal. By the time we got back to the hotel there was desert sand in places it should not have been. Everything needed to be cleaned. Guns, range bag, me. Especially me. Despite that part I am very happy with my performance today.

My goal was little to no penalties and I was so close! We had 4 stages and on the first we had some long distance rifle shots that were flashers. Normally I hit these without fail but the winds beat me. I hit 2 out of the four. Each is worth 10 seconds but I did not want to take that long to shoot them, then not hit them, then get penalized. So I allowed 4 shots each and moved on. I did make my bonus flying clay shot so that knocked off 5 seconds. The video shown here is from stage 10, our second stage of the day. This was a good stage for me. Although when I watch myself I know I need to speed up the rifle. The shot gun part at the end was on a swinging bridge. Way too much fun.

There are some well known names here. I felt a bit like a groupee. I did introduce myself to Jerry Miculek. (Photo at right) How could I not? He is an amazing shooter. Taran Butler and Michael Voigt are here also. I am not as familiar with all the big names but those were a couple I recognized. Boy do I sound like a celebrity stalker or what? Tomorrow we will have 5 stages and will most likely go pretty late. Today we had to do a few re-shoots due to wind blowing over targets, etc. That slowed us down. Hopefully tomorrow will have fewer hiccups and not rain on us as predicted. A huge storm from L.A. is making its way toward us and is to be quite cool. Of course the day we leave Monday it is to be back up in the 80’s. Well tomorrow is another day with other challenges. I am looking forward to it.
